How does it work?
The text is firstly assessed for its readability. This could involve the use of alternative spellings, extra punctuation and line breaks. This is to ensure that the text to speech engine reads the document correctly, example of a modified document.
The text is converted using Dolphin, EasyProducer, text to speech software. The translation process creates a DAISY format digital talking book (DTB), a series of MP3 and HTML files. It is then possible to copy the MP3 files and use them as MP3 audio files or create an audio CD.
The audio file is checked to hear how it sounds. To improve internation and the flow, the addition of spacing between sentenses, paragraphs, headings etc can help correct it. Compression and EQ help give the voice a little body.
